I have used Kirklands twice: once for conveyancing, when it went smoothly; the second for litigation, and it was abysmal. There were weeks of inaction by the solicitor, and I had to chase numerous times to get replies to emails. I eventually asked whether he wished to continue to be instructed, or whether I should find another firm. Moreover, I had paid £600 in advance, then received a letter requesting a further £750 to continue the action. I asked whether this would be recoverable, but my email was never answered, and finally I gave up on the company. However, on asking for a receipt for the original £600 over a year later, I was given an invoice for a further £528. The letter the previous year did not mention any outstanding amount, and no work had since been undertaken. They would not enter into discussion about this. After more than a year again, they threatened legal action for costs never adequately explained nor notified. This is an egregiously poor way to conduct affairs.
